Apparently prank pregnancy tests are a ‘thing’ – that is according to Reddit.

Yes, the forum has sparked a discussion about the merits of a product which can fake that thin blue line.

The thread ‘This really should not be a thing’ debates the various scenarios where one of these fake tests could be used.

The products will always give a positive result.

One of these is listed on Amazon.co.uk by BigMouth Inc, the Fake Pregnancy Test.

The product description reads:

‘This is a very funny practical joke to play on people. You don’t actually need to do the test as the positive result is already indicated on the test.

‘Looks very realistic.’

The appeal of the joke test is its extortion potential, according to the seller.

‘Great for marriage, extortion, and laughs! Makes an ideal gift.’

The prank pregnancy test will help you find Mr Right, the description blurb claims.

‘Test your man – find out if you have found Mr Right. Will he stick with you when things get complicated’

Or gain some leverage in the office?

‘Sleep with your married boss and then extort him. Maybe you will get a pay rise.’

‘Take it to work and leave it in the toilet, all the girls will be talking. Take it to your friends, sisters house etc and leave it in the toilet for her boyfriend to find.

Or even make your bae squirm – for a joke…

However, not everyone was amused at the idea.

A similar product sold by 78Seven received eight negative reviews.

The packaging, which is similar to that of popular brand First Response, claims to have ‘Unmatched Accuracy’.

A one-star reviewer, Rob, wrote: ‘There is literally no circumstance under which this could possibly be funny. Don’t do this to people.’

Another wrote: ‘Wow you people really are sick how can anyone find this funny. Making the person your supposed to love think their going to be a dad and then telling them that it was just a joke. Not to mention all the women out their who would love to have children but can’t have them.

‘This is wrong on every level… ‘
