Could Fizzy Milk Become A Thing?

glass edit

We know milk is having a bit of a raw deal lately, with newer and trendier drinks eclipsing the good old-fashioned glass with dinner.

With so many alternatives to dairy for your coffee or cereal; soya, oat, rice and nut, even bone-building claims and health benefits are failing to appeal as dairy falls out of favour with millennials and teens.

So with a 21st century version of the milk moustache, dairy producers Arla have come up with a plan to make milk cool again, by appealing to fizzy drink-loving teenagers.

The Danish company is about to launch a fizzy milk drink, made by mixing milk with fruit juice and then carbonated, and wait for it… it will be pink.

The fizzy milk drink created by German biochemist Sven Thormahlen and Matt Walker, the brains behind Heinz Snap Pots for baked beans, is described as “a type of whey with no fat.”

It is one of the new food products being developed at Arla’s recently opened global innovation centre in Aarhus, Denmark. Other food products in the works are crunchy cheese and yogurt jerky, or yerky.

The new drink, which Arla suggests can be used in cocktails, is part of the company’s strategy to grow milk sales by 2020. It will be available first in the UK, with plans to launch the product worldwide.
